ICT BARRIERS IN SOUTH AFRICAN EDUCATION

THE ICT BARRIERS IN SA

The Importance of Information  and Communication Technology(ICT) has became a basic need to all private, public departments  and companies .These department use ICT for communication with other companies from other countries and help to minimize their work lord .This puts lot of pressure to the department of Education to include ICT class and make them compulsory to all school and to all collages and universities that provide with Teaching courses for teachers. When talking about the barriers of ICT in South African Education we talking about difficulties that the education system of south Africa is facing in term of introducing ICT in all South African schools and to encourage teachers take part in ICT classes and involve their learner to ICT.
THE ICT BARRIERS ENCOUNTERED BY THE SOUTH AFRICAN EDUCATION SYSTEM.
TEACHERS
  • Background knowledge and skill of ICT or effective training.
  • NO ICT studies encountered during their time of study for teaching.
  • Time to go back to study ICT.
  • Lack of confidence for teachers to take part in ICT classes ,afraid to start something new.
  • Resistance to change of teaching style and negative attitude.
  • Lack of resources ICT resources in school.
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
  • Paying too much attention to suburb schools and neglecting schools from rural areas.
  • Failing to train ICT teachers and deploy them to every South African school.
  • Government officials failing to plan the Education system around ICT.
  • Neglecting the importance of ICT  in this generation and the demands of the environment.
  • Providing insufficient ICT equipment to schools.
SCHOOL

  • Poor building infrastructure.
  • Some school not having electricity or solar systems installed especially those in rural areas.
  • lack of teachers with ICT knowledge or properly trained.
  • Lack of financial support to keep ICT equipment working or maintained well.
  • Security to protect the property from being stolen by people.
The South African Government should provide ICT training for all teachers in all South African schools and encourage teachers to take part involving their learner to ICT. The current environment demand technology wise people , so the future of this country demands that we teach those children still in school ICT skill in order for them to compete with the World

I loved to spend my time at a library after my classes every day to do my home work ,  assignments , read news papers and read books.

I enjoyed my self very much in this school ,I made friends with people which we are still friends we are all successful  because of the teachers who gave their time to teach us and not only teach us they also cared for us as learners individually they also gave us hope in life to keep on moving forward even though sometimes things seemed not to be going the  way we wanted .
